Developed during my last year of Master Thesis, while I worked as a researcher for Universidade de Coimbra. With the theme of transportation and geo-location, I set out to create a mobile tourist guide that would use geo-location to improve the tourist experience. It featured check-ins and check-outs in spots, to improve the smart routes engine and be able to give an average of the visit time to the user. This engine was the responsible for giving the users a given route with N points to visit in a given timespan and based on his interests. A photosharing option inside the app was created to share specific "moments" with the other users, related to a specific place. I opted for a full skeuomorphic design, to create something that appealed to the senses visually, using the textures that one could find in its analog counterparts, even though you can’t replicate the smell or the texture, the visuals were there and the emotional connection of the user with the interface was better due to these details. To make it even closer to the original printed tourist guides, the app would start to degrade and the textures would start to deteriorate and lose color over time, creating an aging interface.
